Principle of Operation and Configuration

Fan Coil Units essentially contain Fans which draw air from any room / space, passing through its Filters for removal of dust, and then through a Cooling Coil to cool and dehumidify the air. This process is called conditioning of the air. The Fan Coil Units primarily re-circulate conditioned air between the room and the Fan Coil Units. Hydronic Fan Coil Units use chilled water as cooling medium and they depend on remotely located Chilled Water Generating machines called Chillers. Occasionally, certain other fluids like glycol solution may be circulated when the design warrants lower than normal temperatures of the cooling medium.

Totally Independent in Manufacture, Purchase and Application

HVAC industry applies diverse levels of technology, skills and volumes for different products such as Chillers, Air Handling Units and Fan Coil Units. This fact makes it no longer necessary to procure all such equipment from one source and allows the customer to make the best economic decision in choice of suppliers. That is, different suppliers based on product selection as explained above. To state more clearly, the performance of Air Handlers or Fan Coil Units is purely based on the thermal conditions and the type of the cooling medium supplied (Chilled Water) and entirely independent of Chiller supplier. Classic example is District Cooling System where the FCUs are sourced from multiple suppliers, irrespective of the Chiller brand used. FCUs / AHUs manufacturing has become an independent specialization as a function of technical complexity and quantity. The units can also be designed and selected based on clients’ unique space decor which makes FCUs ideal for Fit Out projects.

High Performance Inside and Out

All major components are made under one banner and one roof. The sheet metal components of FCUs are produced with CNC Machines and the Cooling Coils are Mechanically Bonded (most others supply only less efficient hydraulically bonded coils). The Fans are statically and dynamically balanced and the entire assembly is tested for Air Flow, Cooling Capacity, and Noise Level performance. The in-house laboratory facility is authenticated for calibration of all instruments and certified by independent regulatory authorities. Frontier Air conditioning optionally offers factory fitted control valves and wired thermostats along with the Fan Coil Units at an additional cost. This is claimed to be a superior option since the quality of control installation, fitted ex-factory would be significantly better and consistent than fixing of valves in the field and also it results in major cost savings with project site labour.
